The Hannover Centre for Optical Technologies (HOT) and the Cluster of Excellence PhoenixD invite applications for two PhD Student Positions (m/f/d) in the field of Micro- and Nanooptics fabrication and their Application (Salary Scale 13 TV-L, 75 %) to start on March 1, 2024. The initial appointment will be for 2 years, with the possibility of an extension. The scope of work corresponds to 75 % of the collectively agreed working hours. The possibility for a PhD thesis is given and desired. Application deadline is 15 February 2024.

Responsibilities

The advertised positions deal with the modelling, realization and characterization of functional micro- and nanooptics for novel miniaturised spectroscopic systems by 3D laser printing. The team in the interdisciplinary project comprises 4 members from physics, engineering, and information technology. The topic is part of the Cluster of Excellence PhoenixD, which develops the future digital optics. A close cooperation with the partners in the Cluster is ensured.

We offer a motivated, dynamic working atmosphere in a highly topical research field at the interface between optics, physics, information technology, and engineering.

Conditions of appointment

Requirement for the recruitment is a successfully completed university science degree (Master) in physics, optical technologies, engineering or a related field. In-depth knowledge in at least one of the following areas: additive manufacturing of optical micro- and nanostructures, optical measurement and sensing, Raman spectroscopy, data analysis, modelling and simulation in optics. Experience in general optics and photonics, optical measurement technology as well as good programming knowledge are advantageous.

We expect a high level of commitment and motivation, enjoyment of independent, experimental and theoretical work, good written and spoken German and/or English skills as well as good communication skills.

Diversity

The university aims to promote equality between women and men. For this purpose, the university strives to reduce under-representation in areas where a certain gender is under-represented. Women are under-represented in the salary scale of the advertised position. Therefore, qualified women are encouraged to apply. Moreover, we welcome applications from qualified men. Preference will be given to equally-qualified applicants with disabilities.
