During his visit to Leibniz Universität Hannover, representatives of the two clusters of excellence gave Lower Saxony's Science Minister Falko Mohrs an insight into their research, presented successes and results and outlined future activities.

QuantumFrontiers is concerned with research into light and matter to expand the fundamentals of metrology and advance applications at the quantum frontier on the smallest and largest scale. PhoenixD is researching the simulation, production, and application of novel optical systems to develop high-performance optics for mass production.

Both Clusters of Excellence are currently preparing their applications for a further funding period as part of the Excellence Strategy. "It is our common goal that Lower Saxony is once again successful in the excellence competition," says PhoenixD spokesperson Prof Dr Uwe Morgner. "To achieve this, we must work together at all levels, from the ministry to the executive boards to the faculties."

At the end of his visit, PhoenixD researchers gave Minister Mohrs a tour of one of their laboratories. There, they showed him how laser beams can visualize the metabolism of living cancer cells.
